Yumi firmly believes in cultivating confident, independent, and passionate musicians. Inspired by her mother's unconditional support throughout her life, Yumi strives the same level of devotion towards her students in order to inculcate future independent musical thinkers. During lessons, she serves as a facilitator, while encouraging students to be “decision makers” in their choices of repertoires, and playing methods. She believes autodidacticism to be a very crucial trait in life, as the actual learning takes place in the comfort of a student’s home, after the lesson has ended. Students will have to rely on themselves to be their own teachers. Yumi’s goal, as an instructor, is for her students to be able to express themselves through violin, to become creative, thoughtful musicians, and ultimately musical ambassadors. Yumi feels that the universality of music is unique such that it extends across boundaries, whilst promoting a common theme regardless of one's origins.
